UK government has not yet responded to invitation to Mexico conference.
On 13th / 14th February 2014 the government of Mexico will host a conference on the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons. The conference is part of a new process that has emerged in international nuclear disarmament discussions since 2010, in which non-nuclear weapons states have embarked on a new process, discussing nuclear weapons in the context of their humanitarian consequences. Their aim is to achieve a global ban on nuclear weapons.
So far, the UK has stood outside this new dialogue, refusing to join 127 states in Oslo this year to discuss new findings on the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons: like the resulting famine which could kill up to 2 billion people (see page 2).
The UK government has been invited to the conference but has not replied so far. Please write to your MP to encourage them to tell the government to attend the conference.
