Stop Press From The Nuclear Information Service

May 2012

A report from John Large, a consulting nuclear engineer, concludes that nuclear emergency planning arrangements at the UK’s nuclear weapons factories do not meet standards applicable in the USA, and should be reviewed in the light of Fukushima emergency.

Emergencies resulting from acts of terrorism at the bomb factories have not been taken into account in risk assessments because they are not considered to be ‘resonably foreseeable’ by nuclear regulators, and hazard appraisals are ‘vague and fail to identify’ the nature and severity of potential accident scenarios.
